Completed as part of the National Road in 1818, the Great Crossings Bridge was submerged under water in the 1940s when the Youghiogheny River was dammed. When water levels are low, however, the bridge emerges, as shown in this photo taken in the fall of 2001. The inset photo shows the bridge is still surprisingly intact.
