Charles Willson Peale painted David Rittenhouse with his telescope and celestial charts

In this 1796 portrait, Charles Willson Peale painted David Rittenhouse with his telescope and celestial charts. After his death later that year, Rittenhouse was buried beneath the floor of his astronomical observatory at the corner of Seventh Street and Mulberry (Today's Arch Street) in Philadelphia.
