Axle of the Ferris Wheel

Rising 265 feet above the ground, William Ferris's wheel was about the height of a 25-story building, Each of its 36 wooden cars– 27 feet long, 13 feet wide, and 9 feet tall–could seat 40 people and hold another 20 standing people plus a conductor. The Ferris Wheel could thus carry about 2,000 people at a time.
