The son of a Pittsburgh silent film distributor, David O. Selznick (1902-1965) moved to California in 1926 and became one of Hollywood's most successful producers. Between 1932 and 1948 he produced a string of hits, including A Star Is Born (1937), Gone with the Wind (1939), Spellbound (1945) and Duel in the Sun (1946).
