May Pole dance on Arbor Day

May Day was a traditional right of passage on state college campuses. Inaugurating the spring season in anticipation of graduation, the May Pole program celebrated the vibrant women's culture that prevailed in Pennsylvania's teacher training institutions into the 1960s.
