The founders of Wilson College were Reverend Tryon Edwards and Reverend James W. Wightman, pastors of Presbyterian churches in nearby Hagerstown, Maryland, and Greencastle, Pennsylvania. Under the direction of Rev. Tryon Edwards, its first president, Wilson College began instruction in October, 1870.
