On October 9, 1948, the "Freedom Train," which was touring the United States with priceless documents related to American freedom, passed through York, soon after the city council had closed the town pool to keep out blacks and a local restaurant had refused to serve a black veteran. This editorial cartoon shows the Freedom train derailed by York's institutionalized racism.
