In 1956, the ILGWU opened a 1,200-seat lakeside theater at Unity House. Modeled on Radio City Music Hall, it boasted a ninety-foot stage and up-to-date lighting and sound. Performers at the theater ranged from comedians Danny Kaye, Sid Caesar and Red Button to opera companies and the Harlem Dance Theater Group.
