The Rev. Leon Sullivan, first Black man to become director of General Motors, talks to a group of preschool children who use his church as their kindergarten.

Soon before this photo was taken in 1971, Rev. Leon Sullivan became the first African American appointed to General Motors Board of Directors. In 1971 Sullivan was also director of Girard Trust of Philadelphia, one of the nation's biggest banks.
