In the early twentieth century tens of thousands of those who worked with their hands would respond to World Schoolhouse appeals. Offering mail order instruction in everything from Show Card Writer and Window Trimmer to Chemist, and Mining Engineer, Scranton's International Correspondence Schools was the nation's largest provider of distance education.
