Founded in 1824 as The Franklin Institute of the State of Pennsylvania for the Promotion of the Mechanic Arts, todays Franklin Institute is one of the oldest centers of science education in the United States. Originally located at 15 South 7th Street (now the Philadelphia History Museum at The Atwater Kent ), it moved to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in 1934.
