After Barney Dreyfuss purchased an interest in the Pittsburgh Pirates before the start of the 1900 season, he traded for the best players from his old team, the Colonel's, and then bought out his partners. The Pirates then won pennants in 1901, 1902, and 1903. .Led by Manager Fred Clarke, the 1905 Pittsburgh Pirates finished in second place in the National League, with a record of 96-57.
