The youngest of thirteen children, Ed Walsh escaped the coal mines northeast of Wilkes-Barre by throwing a blazing fastball. Between 1907 and 1912 he won 151 games and ended his career with an overall record of 195-126. Walsh's 1.82 career ERA remains the lowest ever posted for a pitcher with more than 1,000 innings.
