For generations, Pennsylvania's women's colleges provided young women opportunities for higher education and participation in organized sports. Chartered in Pittsburgh in 1869, the Pennsylvania Female College in 1890 changed its name to Pennsylvania College for Women, and in 1955 became Chatham College.
