Art Rooney chatting with race track buddy Jimmy Silver after winning $300,000 at Aqueduct, September 1, 1937. A race horse enthusiast who loved to gamble, Pittsburgh Pirates (today's Steelers) owner Art Rooney in 1937 turned a small bet on a 14-1 longshot running in a Saturday race in Yonkers, New York, into more than $300,000. Rooney's streak of luck won him national attention, including a mention in Time Magazine.
