Built in 1895 to host the Penn Relays, the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field boasted the nation's first scoreboard. Rebuilt in the early 1920s, it became the largest two-tiered stadium in the United States and could hold more than 52,000 fans,. Franklin Field served as the home of the Philadelphia Eagles from 1958 through 1970. Today, it continues to host the annual Penn Relays, the nation's largest track-and-field meet.
