In 1834, students at Haverford College established the first cricket club in the United States made up entirely of American-born youth. Thirty years later, it engaged in the first intercollegiate Cricket match with the University of Pennsylvania. By this time, Philadelphia was known as the "Cricket Capital of America." Today, Haverford's C. C. Morris Cricket Library holds the largest collection of cricket literature and memorabilia in the Western Hemisphere.
