Ann Brancato was just twenty-five when voters in Philadelphia's 5th district elected her to the Pennsylvania legislature in 1932. The first woman elected to the state legislature on the Democratic ticket, she would emerge as a leader of the house Democrats who after 1936 would join with Governor George Earle in passage of the ambitious legislative initiatives of Pennsylvania's "Little New Deal."
