Brothers Charles and Frank Duryea, the nation's first commercial manufacturers of gasoline-powered automobiles, successfully tested their first automobile on the streets of Springfield, Massachusetts, on September 20 1893. In 1900, Charles moved to Reading, Pennsylvania, where he manufactured automobiles for the next fourteen years.
