In 1752, twenty-two year old German immigrant "Baron" Henry William Stiegel (1730-1785) married Elizabeth Huber, the daughter of Lancaster County ironmaster Jacob Huber. During his second twenty two years, Baron Stiegel built a small kingdom as an ironmaster and glassblower, and then watched his empire dissolve in sheriff's sales and debtor's prison. Stiegel constructed his Mansion at Elizabeth Furnace in 1757.
