In the scenic Ridge and Valley Province, the gorgeous landscape of this park keeps visitors coming back year after year. Of particular interest is the long sand and turf beach that receives ample use between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The lake is popular for boating and fishing.
293 campsites have tables and fire rings, and accommodate either tents or trailers. Fifty sites have electric hookups. Two campsites are A.D.A. accessible. There is a dump station and centrally located washhouses with flush toilets, showers and laundry tubs. A camp store sells wood, charcoal and other camping supplies and is open from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day.
Boats with electric motors are permitted on the 451-acre Shawnee Lake, which has three boat launch areas and 183 mooring spaces. A boat dock is A.D.A. accessible. The boat concession rent paddleboats, canoes and rowboats during the summer.
Shawnee Lake is stocked with warm-water game fish. Common game species are smallmouth and largemouth bass, northern pike, walleye, muskellunge, pickerel, catfish, crappie, yellow perch, bluegill, sunfish, sucker, bullhead and carp. An A.D.A. accessible fishing pier is by the Diehl Parking Lot.
The sand and turf beach has modern bathhouses with flush toilets and showers. A food concession is nearby. The beach is open from late-May to mid-September, 8 a.m. to sunset.
There are 15 miles of hiking trails in Shawnee State Park. For more information, visit the park website or contact the park office.
The 3.4-mile Lakeshore Trail is easy biking and includes a small section of shared road. All other designated bicycling trails are moderate difficulty.
Picnic facilities include picnic tables, charcoal grills, water fountains and restrooms. Five picnic pavilions may be reserved. A picnic pavilion is A.D.A. accessible.
In the winter, snowmobiles are permitted on an 11-mile trail network and sledding is available near Picnic Area 2.
