Hillman State Park is located in Washington County, Pennsylvania and is managed for hunting by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Several trails lead back into the hunting grounds; public is welcome. Precautions should be taken when entering hunting lands.
The park consists of rolling terrain averaging 600 - 800 feet in elevation. The land is comprised of open fields and mixed hardwood forest. Established as a slate dump, it now serves as bountiful hunting ground for white-tailed deer, fox, rabbit, squirrel, pheasant and ruffed grouse. No water resource is associated with this parcel. Raccoon Creek State Park is located approximately five miles away, offering a campground and a 100-acre lake that supports a healthy population of lake trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and bream.
Hillman State Park's main recreation is hunting. Visitors must park along side the road and hike back into the hunting grounds, which consist of open fields and woodlands. Folks wishing to enjoy a secluded picnic will find plenty of spots to toss down a blanket and enjoy a leisurely outdoor meal, but they will not find an established picnic area. This park is strictly carry-in, carry-out. There are no refuse cans.
Hillman State Park does have a private in-holding for model airplane flying. Those wishing to fly their planes are welcome to use the large fenced grass field by first calling the model airplane club at 724-787-0177.
